Industrial Visit-LAVASA

Thursday, 14th August 2014: The young managers from MIT School of Telecom Management had their Industrial Visit to a very innovative and complete city called LAVASA. The visit was coordinated by  MITSOT’s placement head  Mrs. Shobhana Anand. This city is just 45km away from renowned city Pune and 95km from India’s Financial Capital i.e. Mumbai. The Visit was planned to understand the development of Lavasa city which is under Lavasa Corporation. The city is full of scenic beauty and which will attract investors from all the section of society except Manufacturing as the city does not promote Pollution.



During the study, our young managers came to know about the development of the city from just a Blue print to a tourist and investment sector. The students asked the role of a manager in coming days and scope of students from different domains such as Marketing, Finance and Systems (Technical). The city is self-sufficient in terms of day to day life as it has Schools, Management College, Banks, Hotels etc. The visit was well organised with full-fledged support from Lavasa Corporation. It surely motivated the budding managers and gave them more opportunities to look ahead for their career.

MITSOT Students –( Batch 13-15)  

Industrial visit: Tata Communication Ltd

Students  from MITSOT Batch 2013-15 (Systems) got an opportunity to visit Tata Communication Ltd Dighi, Pune on 6th– August-2014 with Faculty members. The visit of Tata Communication was really very much enthusiastic and it opened a new door of research on data. It possess near about six hundred acre area. Our visit started from Network Operating Center(NOC), there we saw how the transmission of data takes place and how it distributes the data through the cables of different capacity.

There after students visited the antennas and Satellite controlling centre. Tata communication uses polar satellite antenna mainly. Students also got an opportunity to visit Inmarsat unit where satellite calls are made. When ever there is  a disaster occur, these systems are used. Students also experienced how to make ISD call using Inmarsat .


During  post lunch session , Students visited the customer care center and  got to know about how the data center work. MITSOT students  interacted with the technical team  and gathered information on role of  data in day-to-day business process of TCL  and how the end user get benefit

Student team  felicitated Mr.Ashish Gupta , Manager – Tata Communications & thanked him at the end of Visit . Ms.Shobana Anand & Prof. Archana Deshpande was guiding students in this visit.

Industrial visit to Whirlpool

On Tuesday, 5th August 2014, Students of MITSOT from Marketing Batch  2014-16 visited WHIRLPOOL manufacturing plant, situated at Ranjangaon, MIDC, Pune.Whirlpool has three plants all over India, Pune, Faridabad and Pondicherry. The Pune plant manufactures Refrigerators. Pune plant is the only plant that whirlpool has made itself, other two plant were acquired through merger and acquisition.The company was formed in collaboration with KELVINATOR international corporation, USA for the manufacture of refrigerator compressor.


The company is present in 170 different countries. Whirlpool was established in 1911, and came in India in 1997. The plant layout is according to three types of refrigerators i.e. single door (180-220 ml), double door (250ml) and multidoor(500ml) .In year 2010 maximum  sale of refrigerators happened from this plant.


The plant layout consist of  Belt conveyor, simple conveyor and trim and weld lines. The technology used in these refrigerators are DC(direct cooling) &  FC(forced cooling) i.e. no ice is formed around the interior of the refrigerator. FREEON is used as a refrigerant(CF2CL2). It is used and worked on convection. DART process is used as a basic terminology i.e. dry air rated temperature. In a day under first shift, 1300 refrigerators are manufactured. The warehouse is at the end of the factory.


The visit was informative & we all learnt the functions of a basic manufacturing unit. At the end the Company Guide  was felicitated by Prof. AMOL GAWANDE, who was coordinating the students for the visit.
