World Telecommunication and Information Society Day (WTISD) 2016

WTD_Banner

Every year, International Telecommunication Union (ITU) organizes World Telecommunication and Information Society Day (WTISD) with an objective to help raise awareness of the possibilities that the use of the Internet and other Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) can bring to societies and economies, as well as of ways to bridge the digital divide.

Since its inception in 2007, MIT Pune’s MIT School of Telecom Management (MITSOT), Pune has been taking forward this vision by celebrating this important initiative and awarding leading ICT players for their outstanding contributions in their respective fields.

This year, taking a cue from ITU’s WTISD theme for 2016, MITSOT has formulated the theme for this year’s initiative as “ICT Entrepreneurship for INDIA Impact”. Moreover, the Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi too had this year in his Independence Day speech announced the “Start-up India” initiative. This initiative aims at fostering entrepreneurship and promoting innovation by creating an ecosystem that is conducive for growth of Start-ups. The objective is that India must become a nation of job creators instead of being a nation of job seekers.

Taking forward this thought, this year, MITSOT will be felicitating and awarding the initiatives of few such startups who have leveraged ICT & created an Impact in their respective domains. In fact, we are pleased to inform you that couple of these award winning startups have been initiated by alumni of MIT Group of Institutions. These are in the fields of Innovation in IT & Training, Telecom Technology & IOT, Financial Technology in Education, Health Tech etc.

The objective is to bring together different stakeholders in the startup ecosystem as well as concerned Industry members on a common platform and also stimulate dialogue for the benefit of the management students from MIT Group of Institutions & other engineering as well as management colleges from in & around Pune. These students will soon be embarking on their careers in the coming couple of years and some of them will also be aspiring to become future entrepreneurs. This initiative will add immense value to their career outlook & help them plan accordingly.

We take this opportunity to invite you to participate in this initiative & also benefit from the panel discussions, case studies as well as the Awards presentation scheduled on Friday, 22nd July 2016 at Swami Vivekanand Hall, MIT Campus, Kothrud Pune from 1400 hrs. to 1830 hrs.

Kindly note that though there are no delegate fees, prior registration is essential. For more information on the event, you are welcome to contact the Event Coordinator Mr. Umesh Chande on 9967505355 / umesh.chande@mitsot.com.
