Scope of doing MBA Telecom Management in India

India is the 2nd largest telecommunications market in the world. The mobile phone industry in India is likely to contribute US$ 400 billion to the country’s gross domestic product (GDP) and has the potential to generate about 4.1 million additional jobs by 2020, as per Ms Anne Bouverot, Director General, Groupe Speciale Mobile Association (GSMA). The mobile ecosystem generated approximately 5.3 per cent of the GDP for India, and directly supported 730,000 jobs in 2012, according to the report titled ‘Mobile Economy India 2013’ released by GSMA in association with the Boston Consulting Group (BCG). The above numbers speak about the volume of available jobs in the sector of Telecom in India. Most of the b-schools in India concentrate on the Marketing/Finance/HR specializations. Only a handful of them are offering the MBA Telecom Management courses. Educational institutes offering MBA Telecom Management are a need of the hour to skill such a huge number of workforces.

Telecom Sector Skill Council (TSSC), a non-profit industry driven body under the aegis of National Skill Development Corporation, India (NSDC), is an institution aiming to develop world class skilled manpower for the Telecom industry in India. According to TSSC, telecom sector employs close to 2.8 million people directly almost another 7 million indirectly, making it one of the largest employment generating sectors in the country.
