Indian Telecom market is one of the fastest growing markets in the world. Even during the Economic slowdown the telecom industry was on a high. 2010 will be a significant one for the Indian telecom industry, but not without challenges. The huge challenge in front of the operator now is declining ARPUs. In the current scenario, the margins and return indicators may come under pressure as ARPUs continue to fall as consumers carefully watch their spending consumer cost-saving pressure should lessen in 2010, and we expect voice revenue to decline by approximately 5% each year thereafter.
Rural Telephony is the next boon for the Indian Telecom Industry in 2010,” said Mr. Peeyush Vaish, Associate Director, Ernst & Young to Industry representatives at TELETECH 2010 conference on “Telecom technologies for transforming India into a knowledge industry” organized by Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in association with MIT School of Telecom Management (MITSOT) in Mumbai. Mr. Vaish stated that there is a lot of potential in India. Sectors like insurance, motors have grown in rural India and so can the telecom sector.

Third generation mobile systems such as UMTS [universal mobile telecommunication system] revolutionized telecommunications technology by offering mobile users content rich services, wireless broadband access to Internet, and worldwide roaming. The users will be able to enjoy Voice-over-IP, multimedia messaging, and video conferencing services with up to 2 Mbps data rate. However the broadcast nature of the wireless communication and increased popularity of wireless devices introduce serious security vulnerabilities. The main aim is to evaluate current 3G security protocols, implement security features outlined in these protocols.
Dr. Sunil Karad, Executive Director, MITSOT , Pune said that being a part of Educational institute, MITSOT has undertaken a project "Regional study of Telecom Technology Options for Indian Rural Education" which is funded by Government of India.
