GTL Infra plans 50,000 towers in 3 yrs

GTL Infrastructure, which today agreed to buy the tower business of Aircel, plans to have a footprint of 50,000 towers over the next three years, company's Chairman Manoj Tirodkar said that.

 
 
Mobile Internet Slow in Taking off in India

India had about 471.7 million mobile users at the end of September, but only 2 million, or 0.42 percent, use the Internet at least once a month, according to a survey by Internet & Mobile Association of India (IAMAI) and research firm IMRB International.

 
 

Gemini Communication bags Rs 435 cr BSNL contract: 

CHENNAI: The Rs 270 crore-Gemini Communication (GCL), a telecom and networking company, and its product subsidiary Mobile WiMAX equipment manufacturer PointRed Telecom, have bagged Rs 435 crore contract from Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) for the deployment of mobile WiMAX application in India.

 
 

BSNL aims to double revenues from VAS: 

In what will be amongst the largest contracts for Value Added Services, state-owned BSNL has invited bids from companies to provide interactive non-voice services to its 50 million mobile users using the Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD) technological platform. BSNL aims to double its increase its revenues from VAS service to Rs 2000 crore annually after this platform is implemented.

 
 

Android Smartphone marks new assault on iPhone 

GOOGLE’s development of a mobile phone that uses its Android operating system marks a new push by the company to take on Apple Inc. and Research In Motion Ltd. in the smart-phone market, analysts said. Google, the most popular Internet search engine, last week gave employees an Android handset for testing.
